The Six Principals of IDEA (Individuals with Disability Education Act) workshop is designed as an introduction of the underlying principals of the law. Participants will increase their understanding of:
The basic concepts of IDEA
The rights of parents and students in the IEP process
How to effectively advocate for your child
Options available when you disagree with your IEP team
The second workshop, IEP (Information Especially for Parents) on IEPs (Individual Education Plan) increases the understanding of participants between the IDEA principles and the actual process of writing your child's IEP document. We recommend attendees have basic knowledge of, or have attended, the Six Principals of IDEA. Participants will increase their understanding of:
How the IEP team members interact with each other
How a team makes decisions
How to advocate and reach agreement about your child's program
