Three Stars Plaza features a central art sculpture consisting of a spindle with stacked records honoring Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. ''The Big Bopper'' Richardson who played their final concert at the Surf and who died just hours after their performance in a plane crash north of Clear Lake. Three Stars Plaza is located 1/2 block west of the Surf Ballroom. The feature is especially striking at night when the neon lights glow.
