About Us
Habitat for Humanity of North Central Iowa (HFHNCI) believes that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. By utilizing volunteer labor, we provide homeownership opportunities or needed home repairs to low-income families. Families who cannot be approved by a bank are able to obtain 0% interest loans through Habitat. Applicants are selected by their current housing needs, ability to make payments, and their willingness to provide ''sweat equity.'' Our philosophy of a ''Hand Up / Not Hand Out'' encourages families to learn important budgeting skills, gain self-confidence, acquire home maintenance skills, and make connections with a variety of community volunteers.
HFHNCI also operates a ReStore which sells home improvement items to the public at discounted prices. The ReStore helps to fund Habitat homes, gives affordable options for homeowners and landlords to maintain their homes, and also keeps reusable merchandise from needlessly going into the landfill.
