Clear Lake, IA – The Mason City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be rededicating DAR Park located on Wesley Drive in Clear Lake on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00PM. The chapter has added a park bench in celebration of America 250 and will dedicate that as well.
There will be a short program which will include a historical perspective of the area given by Beth Ann Schumacher of the Clear Lake Historical Society. In 1925, the Clear Lake DAR Chapter purchased D.A.R. Park - historic site of the 1876 pavilion where early day Chautauqua meetings were held. In 1960 the chapter gave the park to the City of Clear Lake. This event is open to the public and is a wonderful opportunity to visit the park and hear about the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s lineage-based nonprofit, nonpartisan women’s service organization with a mission to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
Who We Are
The DAR is one of the largest women’s lineage based, patriotic nonprofits in the world, with 185,000 members and approximately 3,000 local chapters in the United States and abroad. Since our founding in 1890, close to one million members have carried out our mission.
The women who make up our membership are varied and come from all walks of life, yet we share a common bond of tracing our ancestry back to those who helped gain our nation’s independence. We are committed to honoring our nation’s past by serving our communities today.
