Known as “Southern Rock Royalty” and the “great American rock ‘n’ roll band,” The Kentucky Headhunters have maintained a longevity most acts can only dream about. With a GRAMMY Award, CMA Album of the Year Award, two CMA Vocal Group of the Year Awards, two Top 10 charting albums, and four consecutive Top 40 hits, their international success spans multiple genres. The “Heads” are credited for creating a unique blend of honky-tonk, blues, and southern rock that appeals to the toughest music critics and listeners of all kinds.
Getting their start in 1968, brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenny, from Edmonton, Kentucky, formed Itchy Brother, which later morphed into The Kentucky Headhunters, after Kenny departed and Doug Phelps joined the band. Their first album, Pickin’ On Nashville, (1989), surprised the world when it became a major success, selling over two million copies.
Their newest album, On Safari, is available November 4. Tipping the hat to family and the southern way of life, their inspiration behind the project stems from several life-changing events, both personally and professionally, for The Kentucky Headhunters. With nine self- penned songs, as well as Alice Cooper and Charlie Daniels covers, it is a must-listen for southern rock, blues, Americana and country fans alike.
The Kentucky Headhunters continue to bring their electrifying live show across the North America and recently completed their first-ever European tour. Their ability to reinvent themselves year after year gains them new fans across the globe, proving that – even with decades of success – the long-haired, southern blues-rockers won’t be slowing down any time soon.
