Iowa's sandhill cranes are making a comeback after nearly a century of extirpation. A collaborative study is gathering information about these remarkable birds and their return to modern day Iowa. After a brief overview on the history and biology of sandhill cranes we will provide a description of the research and share preliminary results. Orrin Jones is a waterfowl biologist with the Iowa DNR's Wildlife Bureau.
