SUMMARY:Artist Talk & Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a combined reception and artist talk celebrating both current exhibitions\, Changing Perspectives and China from the South China Sea. Meet both artists\, explore their work\, and enjoy an afternoon of conversation\, reflection\, and connection in the gallery. All are welcome! Changing Perspectives by Delores Frederick Explore the art of Delores (Dee) Frederick in her retrospective exhibition in the J.R. Larson Media Studio. Known for her expressive watercolor work\, Dee captures both emotion and detail through her unique blend of technique and intuition. This exhibition highlights her journey as an artist\, teacher\, and dedicated contributor to Iowa's arts community. Don't miss the chance to experience the depth of her lifelong work. China from the South China Sea: Collecting and Re-contextualizing Shards and Lost Cultural Ephemera by Dr. Martie Geiger-Ho Dr. Martie Geiger-Ho had been developing her Shangri-La series for several years when she discovered a meaningful way to integrate antique Chinese pottery shards collected over more than a decade of beach combing into her sculptural work. Though familiar with the fragments washed ashore from the South China Sea\, she waited to use them until she could apply them with intention\, depth\, and insight. Her vision came to life in a series of ceramic sculptures that embed the shards within seascape-inspired forms\, creating artwork that becomes self-referential. By merging the terrain of the South China Sea coastline with the very earthenware\, porcelain\, and stoneware fragments recovered from its shores\, Geiger-Ho crafts pieces that honor China's long and distinguished ceramic tradition while playfully reflecting on how "china" can be transformed into new "china." On view in the Stanton Gallery and the J.R. Larson Media Studio through end of 2025.
